Sweet Home Alabama

Hey everyone! Before I tell you about my weekend, I want to thank Tricia, over at My Fabulous (and Slightly Awkward) Pursuit of Happiness, for giving me the Leibster Blog Award! If you glance over to the right, you will see that I proudly posted it for all to see!  This award comes with rules, and I will share those in a blog post tomorrow:) Thanks again Tricia!

If you read my blog last Tuesday, you know that we were leaving for Alabama to visit Tyler's family (last) Wednesday evening.  We came home yesterday.  We had a blast spending time with our family! We were so sad to see it end.

Here are some of my favorite highlights of our long weekend.

I learned is that, for over 10 years, I have been singing the song "All Star" (by Smashmouth) completely wrong.  I have been singing, "in the shape of an L on her forehead," but I was informed by my 9 year old niece that it is, "in the shape of an ELF on her forehead."  I feel so silly, I mean, elf makes so much sense.  I can't believe I have been singing it wrong for so long.

I also learned what Dunlap Disease is.  According to Tyler's dad, Dunlap Disease is when your belly's done lapped over your pants.  Genius.

I shopped all day Saturday with my momma in love.  She took me to an amazing new outlet mall.  I spent all of my money, but my closet sure is happy!

We had family pictures taken on Saturday evening. I can't wait to see them! When I get them, I will  share in one of my blog posts.  I will let you know in advance, Tyler's momma has been mistaken for Paula Dean more than once.

I was called "Aunt Autie" all weekend.  Hearing a precious 9 year old niece, 4 year old niece, and 22 month old niece say "I love you Aunt Autie" or "Hey Aunt Autie, come play with me," completely melted my heart.   I love being an aunt!  Here is a picture that my 4 year old niece Sayde drew of me.
Can you see the incredible resemblance? She's amazing:)

We can't wait for our next visit!
I said it before and I will say it again, I love road trips!  Even though 20 hours of car time (round trip) doesn't sound very appealing, it was SO much fun (because I was with my hunk of a hubs/BFF, of course)!

Here are some things I love about road trips:
I love buying snacks for the road
I love eating the snacks I bought for the road, on the road
I love singing to old (late 90s/early 2000s) music
-this trip included Britney Spears, Nsync, Backstreet Boys, etc.  The hubs LOVED it.  Ok, so maybe I am being slightly sarcastic. Let me rephrase that. The hubs put up with it:)  As I sang the songs at the top of my lungs, he watched me/laughed at me/smiled at me.  In my mind I sound even better than Adele...haha...bless his heart. He, on the other hand, has a very attractive voice. Click here to listen! You can also look him up on itunes!)
I love looking at beautiful scenery
I love making memories
I love spending time with Tyler
I love exploring new places

There is only one thing that I do not enjoy about road trips.
I do not like using rest area/gas station bathrooms.
I am a straight up germaphobe.
Yuck.
Here's how it always goes.  I'm sure you all have had similar experiences.

Picture this.
You're on a road trip.
Your bladder has reached it's maximum capacity.
You are on a mission.
You need to find a rest area/gas station STAT.
You find one.
You quickly park, get out of your car, and start speed walking.
As soon as you are in the building, you immediately scan the area for a "Restrooms" sign.
You see one.  Hallelujah.
You make a B line for the "Women" sign.
Now you begin a new mission.
You must find a stall.
-cue Jaws theme song. Seriously.  If you want to enjoy the extent of my anguish, click the link and play the music while you read the rest.
You open the first stall.
You're pretty sure that A. yellow toilet seats are the new fad OR B. the woman before you had TERRIBLE aim.
And what is that puddle of unidentified liquid on the floor?  Never mind.  You decide you would rather not have that information.
You move on to door number 2.
As you get closer, the overwhelming odor fills your nostrils.
You immediately cover your nose and mouth.
Against your better judgment, you decide to open the door and have a look.
To your horror, you lock eyes with either A. a brown toilet monster OR B. last night's dinner/Taco Bell gone bad.
As you try to contain a scream (and your lunch) you let the door slam shut.
Hello door number 3.
Because of your previous experiences, you use extreme caution this time.
You slowly open the door and peek in.
You decide that A. You need to call 911 or get in contact with CSI because someone was murdered in this stall OR B.  the most disgusting woman on the face of the planet used this stall before you.
Next stall.
To your surprise, it appears to be CLEAN! Well, clean enough for the hover technique.
Hover technique- adj. when you don't feel comfortable enough to have your exposed cheeks touch a foreign toilet seat; high squat position.
FINALLY.
So you assume your position.
You look up just in time to see A. someone staring at you through the 10 foot gap around the stall door (I've never understood why the gaps are so large.) B. your door didn't latch properly, and you are greeted with an apology from the woman who just opened the door to your stall OR C. no toilet paper.
You pee as fast as you can, wash your hands, and book it out of there!
You survived.
:)

I hope everyone had a perfect weekend!

DUNLAP DISEASE?
I have that. Every day!
And I love buying snacks for the road too.
But I have a tendency to eat them all at once, too fast... hence the dunlap disease haha

Noooo! I thought it was an "L" not an "ELF". I'm so sad right now. I mean there is a random video somewhere on the internet of me dancing like a crazy person to this song...and I made an "L"!

Congrats on your award!
